Default insurance questions...wtf

i need a insurance company that can insure my 77 for 25,000 under storage but not in a garage......

i looked at most of the vendors and it seems that since i dont have a garage then the insurance wont cover it...... so then i called allstate and they told me that they will only insure up to blue book value which is 8,000...wtf....... i have no clue what to do here......

AAA does classic ins. now. Car does not need to be garaged.

Google Classic car insurance. Hagerty is a pretty good one.

Change brokers. You should be able to find coverage. What most people don't realize is that a broker can only place you with the companies that allow him to sell for them. Some brokers have 2-3 insurance companies others have 20 or 30 insurance companies.

Maybe some one from Detroit can chim in and say who they are going through.

Hagerty ... agreed value. Vehicle does not have to be "garaged" ... but it does have to reside in a locked & secure fully-enclosed structure.

Every company I have checked out requires the car to be in a locked garage. They may not come out and say it right away but everywhere I looked turned out to be that way. good luck, not having a garage sucks....I know!

Renting a garage and paying Hagerty $250/year might be chaeper than paying a higher premium without garage..... just an idea....

The difference between DD policy and Hagerty can be as much as $1000 - can you rent a garage (or share a garage) for roughly $80/month ???

Hagerty, but they do require garage, also you might need to document the amount you want in coverage. It will be difficult to find a carrier who will give you yjay amount of coverag on a classic vehicle, and not require a locked and secure storage area.

like i said, last year when we talked ot them, they said they didnt offer any diffrent insurance for classic/historic cars. just the bassic and full coverage.

I do not classify for a classic car insurance policy because I live in a condo and although it has a secure/gated/security camera/assigned parking garage it is the fact that "others" have access to the same garage. I found this policy (thanks to the forum members) to be about the best there is out there for a person who drives a classic car daily or does not have a private garage.

Opps...forgot to mention that this is a Safeco policy.

My policy says the following...
Declarations: A classic car's value usually, but not necessarily increases over time. Because it is more likely than not that values go up, we increase the insurance rates on all classic cars by 2.5%, effective at each policy renewal date.

Loss Settlement:
A. Our limit of liability for a partial loss will be the lesser of the:
1. The actual cash value of the stolen or damaged property; or
2. The amount necessary to repair or replace the property; or
3. The maximum limit of liability shown in the declarations.
B. Our limit of liability for a total loss will be the amount shown for each scheduled classic car which is agreed to be the value of your covered auto.

Based on the above, I think I have an "agreed" value policy if a total loss (stolen and not recovered, etc.) and if it does have some partial loss then I might be somewhat screwed depending on how they identify actual cash value. I have the car appraised and all reciepts, previous bill of sales from the last 3 owners since 1990 showing it holds value and increases each time the car has changed hands, etc. for which the insurance company has also on file and I plan to get this updated every 2 years with a new appraisal.

For me...I drive my car every day I get a chance and leave the truck at home. I even get better gas mileage in the vette (6 speed Richmond) than my truck and this is even true when I drive the vette very spirited.

I was considering Hagerty and renting a garage, but they specifically ask you if the car is being stored in a locked garage at your address.

Perhaps you haven't spoken w/ a real person ... I dunno? Maybe I got a waiver when I submitted pics of locked enclosed race car hauler? ... and was approved by Hagerty.

I just went down and reactivated my plates and ins. after 2 yrs non-op. They told me it just started and the Vette qualified. Gave me a brochure, and I have an appt. this week to ADD it to the required public liability, blah blah,............Supposed to be competetive with Hagerty, whom I use for my Model T, no garage requirement, agreed value, blah, blah,...

Carpedm has it covered. The key term is "Agreed" or "Stated Value" for insured amounts if not the Blue book applies. Companies are skidish to insure cars for more than their Blue Book values.

If this is a daily driver with mileage limits and you want $25K of insurance expect to pay more than $250 a year.
