Default cast differential to Batwing question

I'm installing a batwing differential carrier into my 78. I see that there are 2 different differential housing gaskets. One is for upto '79 and the other is for 80' to 82'. There is a difference in price so there must be some differences. Which would be the correct one to use? Does anyone know what the difference is?

Thanks,
Kipp

80-82 is for the batwing, it has the "flanges" for the camber mount bracket incorporated so that the gasket is clamped between the entire surface (otherwise there would be a gap where the camber bracket mounts which may lead to warping of the flange when tightening or maybe a failure), you don't need that flange so I would just get the earlier gasket or whichever is the cheapest.

Twin-Turbo,

Kipp,
Just curious why you're using the 80-82 batwing setup in your car? The iron unit and cover are stronger.

Hey Kayeakel, keep us informed on how that goes. Take lots of pictures. I'm doing the same thing. I'm having brackets made and hope to have it done soon. Good question on the gasket, I would have been asking the same thing soon.

the batwing is much lighter than the cast iron lid and heavy crossmember and the batwing is plenty strong, I've never seen the 80-82 batwing being broken, The Dana 36 ones yes (and some super Dana 44 ones also), the 80-82 batwing appears to be much beefier than the C4 stuff.

Ok but I'm still going to use the Muskegon or stock iron covers and housings! LOL
