Thx

It depends on what rack you use and what ends you use. I set mine up probably the most unique way. I cut the eyes out of my center link and welded them into at center bar. That way I retained the factory inner and outer tie rod ends, the sleave is still the factory. I was initially concerned about the stetching this out, but after 2k miles I haven't had any problems, but still plan on changing to the aluminum sleave. It will only need to be 2" longer than the factory. Here's some pics.

Back in '01, when there were NO kits on the market, I found out the correct rack to use, and so it's off a '92 Grand Am.....same rack you have....well I had a heavy metal block machined to take stock tie rod ends and adapt to the rack like it was intended.....had to cut and move upwards on the block to raise the tie rod ends for much better bump steer controll....

MY tie roda are 19 inches on dirvers, and 21 inches on pass side....

the rack is offset to driver's side, obviously by about an inch....
in fact it would be centered better , but I was trying to accomodate an older header set, which was not a good decision, but the car runs fine for pushing 5.5 years now, so can't complain...

I too used stock tie rod ends.....I lengthened the stock tie rod sleeves by putting a 9/16 rod down the center, drilling holes and having it welded up, after it was proven to work, I took a steel tube and went over the outside, welding the ends to the original tube....them things stronger than dirt NOW....so the sleeves are precious, the tie rod ends are stock disposable...

What are you guys using for power steering pumps? I'm currently putting in a C4 suspension, and given that I am having to do a bunch of changes to accomodate the difference in C3/C4 track widths, I may entertain the idea of a rack like this to fit onto my modified frame. Any pressure/volume issues when using the stock pump, or are you using a later pump? Also, what's the "steering feel" with this rack?

I'm going to use a SAAB 900 / 9-3 rack, this is a 3 1/4 ??ratio?? instead of the Steeroids 2 3/4 ??ratio??. I'm using a stock pump, but am going to use a adjustable restrictor valve if the steering is too sloppy.

regards

You should contact Marck (Twin_Turbo), he's doing a rack and pinion conversion on a C3 right now and lives in our stormy little country. I bet he can help you.

I'm using the stock pump, it's undriven with a smaller crank pully. It's great when on the street, but I would like a little more assist for the parking lots.
