I have Flowmaster 50s installed with elbows into a stock-type 2 1/2" aluminized pipe. I noticed some backfiring thru the mufflers when decelerating in gear and also fumes in the car.... methinks, exhaust leak! Sure enough, I can feel the exhaust gas coming out of the inlet side of the muffler, where I have the muffler clamped onto the elbow. The muffler inlet seems very stiff to me, ie I dont think it compresses much when I tighten the clamp. Aside from tightening the clamp until I crush the muffler inlet, is there some type of gasket or sealant that I could use? Left to my own devices I will probably wrap the elbow in aluminum foil and shove that into the muffler! MJ
Re: Bubba needs help with leaky mufflers (Flareside)
I agree with Joe. Weld it. Clamps always seem to leak no matter how tight they get. Sometimes the clamp will distort the pipe and it will never seal. The best clamps i have seen are the truck style band clamps. I have these on my pipes and the leaks have stopped completly. They are a band about 4 inches long and they seal very well. Little pricey but they work
