I don't think that your engine would stall due to a clogged PCV. You can check it by shaking the valve an see it the ball is loose. If the ball is loose then the valve is probably okay.

Yep, shake it to see if it still rattles. Also while the engine is running at idle, there should be vacuum at the end of the valve. If you rev the engine / snap the throttle, the valve should temporarily close.
The design of the system is so that it is only drawing from the engine at high vacuum situations such as idle and deceleration.
I have not seen a PCV cause problems with the car running, but you could always plug the line and test it. DO NOT drive around too long with no PCV, ie don't plug the valve cover.
