Default Power window install and lock/latch rebuild...what a difference

After almost getting locked out at the beach, and having the passenger window regulator start working with a loud clunk, and having the woman constantly complain about the sticky latch I finally decided to put in the power window regulator and rebuild the lock and latch. What a difference this made. The window works great tho' it is a little sticky about half way down, hopefully this will work out through more use. I also pulled the latch mechanism because it was really hard to open the door from the outside and I pulled the lock because it was really hard to turn from the inside or outside. It took a lot of Gunk and carb cleaner to get all the old grease off but it made a big difference. The lock works really smoothly from inside or outside, the latch is no longer sticky, and since I replaced the inner and outer weatherstripping also, there are no more rattles. Yes it left a hole in my door panel but I filled it with black weatherstrip adhesive and it is barely noticeable.

It was very simple to pull all that stuff apart and if you are having problems I wouldnt hesitate to pull it all, clean it, and re-lube it. I got the power window regulators/harness/and switches from some guy in the parts section (tho I do still need to buy a new brace for the drivers regulator) for a reasonable price. Gave it all a thorough cleaning and tested it outside of the car before installing it.

After fixing the cracked and hole filled floor and laying down new insulation and carpet (I installed the window wiring harness at when I did the carpet), installing the power windows and elimating the rattles and other hassles in the door is really making the car a LOT more livable. It's turning the car from a clunker into a nice, tight ride (of course the complete suspension rebuild helped, but the floor and door repairs are things others notice first and tend to coomplain about). Not to mention that elimating the crank handles makes more leg room. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade (especially for a convertible as having the passenger window up on the freeway really reduces the wind on the drivers side so it is really nice to be able to control the window at the touch of button).
