Getting ready to prepare floors on my 77 for finishing. Question I have is should I paint them or just wire brush them and use rubberized undercoating. What brand should I use from your experience? It appears my floors have some under coating on them and are just painted with a grey primer. If I paint them should I strip the old undercoating off and get it down to bare metal. I have been told that POR 15 s the best thing to do what do you think. Thanks guys.
Why do you want to go through all the trouble, the floors look solid, no rust, the coating doesn't flake. I would leave it as is, it can only get worse. The floor pans are galvanized, wire brushing will remove it (partly) and they will rust sooner.

I would use bedliner spray that they use on pickup trucks. I've seen it at Autozone and checked it out on www.duplicolor.com. I think is what I'll use on mine before laying down the reflectix, it is supposed to be very durable.
I wish my floor boards looked that good before I redid mine. I just painted with Rustoleum Professional and covered with a Dynomat-like product. I'm still learning about this stuff, but if I had to do again, I would brush and use POR.
Did they undercoat the floors when they were assembled. As you can see there is some flaking off the passenger side. I didnt realize they galvanized the floords on the vette.
Alright, here is a question I probably should know - what year did they move to metal floors? My 72 are fiberglass.
76 is when they started with metal floors. i'd wire brush them and por15 or paint them . i wouldn't use any undercoat, to me undercoating is only used to hide mistakes
Thanks. I am in the middle of a frame off and have used Por 15 on all of the metal frame components and brackets. Easy to use and works good if you follow all of their steps with cleaning and primer.
