I have a 434CID Small block in my 69' roadster with Dart aluminum angle plug heads. Currently running some generic headers I bought off a friend that are similiar to block huggers. I don't like the 90 degree angle I need to make after the collector and would like to replace them. Whats a good big tube header that will work with the angle plug heads? No A/C and don't want side pipes. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Re: Header Choice for 69' 434CiD Small Block (par1969)
I'm running the Pro 1's with angle plugs and 2.08 titanium/1.625 steel valves. I have hooker S/C 1 3/4 28 inch pri and 3.5 inch collectors reduced to 3 inch true duals without cats. Because of the exhaust port size (also from prev heads) I had to spend allot of time hogging them out with a Makita die grinder. Too even approach the head exhaust port size. It's a good thing that the flange is so thick!
I set my limits about not going to addapters or a spread port design. I think that they work great.
Your in the custom area. Where everything is a custom operation. I'm a solid roller person with .635/644 lift.
Re: Header Choice for 69' 434CiD Small Block (par1969)
I have a SBC 427, I dyno'd with a set of 1 3/4" stepped to 1 7/8". Although it still made 650hp/580tq, they were restrictive. I recently had a set made - 2" stepped to 2 1/8". Not saying you need custom headers, stepped, or even that big, but I think 1 3/4" is too small. Stahl Headers has both regular and side mount (I know you said you didn't want them) headers for C3's, and they can make them with up to 1 7/8" primaries, that's what I'd recommend.
Re: Header Choice for 69' 434CiD Small Block (Monty)
I was going to tell you about Monty. His motor is another whole class. Yours is way above mine.
Monty I had a great afternoon. 320 miles on my motor from noon till 5:00 - lots of mountian roads with 45 mph posted with 25 posted turns. I need a TKO 5 speed. I feel sorry for the 700r4 manual shifting. It was hot out, but it doesn't account for the amount of swet on my back and hands. Lots of coming over a rise without being able to see the road ahead and four wheel drifts. Kind of like bike racing. Where you see the 30 mile turn sign and your going 110 and do the late braking - turn in shift to second and modulate the throttle back to WOT.
It's amost winter - when I just put a cover on it!

George,
I just got your email an hour or two ago. You're a wild man, I hope your life insurance provider doesn't ever find out about you extra-curricular activities!
