I am in the proccess of rebuilding my 71 coupe, the hacks that had it before me really did a number on it. Ive noticed a post a bit back that shows the inside of the rear compartment panels, mainly showing decal locations, but what Ive notice is that there is a flat, black panle on theinside ofthe doors, to which the stickers are affixed. I have nothing there on any panels.Basically its just the skeleton webbing of the inside of the door. My question is, what is the inner liner made up of? I cant seem to find it anywhere and was wondering if people are making their own? And if so, out of what material, it looks fairly thin. Thanks!
I think there are factory style panels that have a backing of some kind that that sticker affixes to and then there are the after market panels that are made cheaper, and are just a plastic molded webbing. I think for the proper backing you would need to find factory OEM panels.
The factory doors are wood and the inside where the stickers mount are simply painted black. It sounds as if you have plastic replacement doors on yours.
the originals were actually a cardboard type material. it was the entire thickness of the door and the under side was painted black and that is where the stickers go.
