Go ahead and hijack it, after a month and a half, I dont think anyone cares. And yea, you probably shouldnt try it, those lug nuts are tricky buggers.

wombvette, IMHO your advice was correct and probly saved BlackRocket literaly from years of uneeded work - maybe saved his entire project too. I have to thank you for sharing your work for us to learn. I just hope u don't get descouraged by lurkers here.

When i first started with this forum hardly anyone knew what a birdcage was let alone replace it. And i think like there's less than 100 people (more like <50) on the planet that can brag they have repaired and replaced a "birdcage" - as most are glassed in.
What i want to say is the birdcage is a crucial decision to revive or part out an C3 (well maybe even a C2).

Wombvette, my post may have come across as harsh, but it was unintended. Sorry if you took offense.

Also, I suppose I'm the that Cardo0 is referring to. Hmm, don't consider myself a lurker, would like to think that I've helped a few folks out over the years, but I know I've recieved more than given.

Also, since i'm on mode, I will say that I have some difficulty comparing brain surgery with birdcage repair. Both are difficult, and best performed by someone with the proper training. The comparison falls apart though, when considering the cost of the smallest mistake, and the unlikelyhood of a second chance.

I'm out, goodnight all.

No offense taken. I was just having a little fun with you myself. You would not believe what I see on a daily basis. People attempting stuff that they have no business doing. Most times it ends in disaster and I have to bail them out. Same if I tried to program this computer. I would make a royal mess and have to have someone bail me out. I wouldnt even attempt it without some working knowledge. Most of the time you can tell by the wording of the question whether a person has a clue or not. It is great that someone wants to work on their own car. I encourage them every day. I spend hours a week, talking to people about their cars and offering advice and direction. Some do very well, and some dont dare do anything. Both are hobbiest in their own way.
Now, as for that analogy, Those lug nuts are just as important as brain surgery, a mistake can be just as catastrophic.

The Rocket has taken his very good and solid bird cage and is basking in the California sun. Where this thread was before it was resurrected after almost two months.

To All,
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I am not afraid to tackle this problem, it is just hard for me to locate the parts. Once I can get everything lined up, I can start. I also have local tech. help
to advise me too. Have a great vette summer season and drive careful.

For all of you with birdcageproblems... I've been there and done that...last summer. It's not for the faint of heart but can be done. If anyone needs advice I'm there.

Jimydc,

I got two very nice birdcage sections from...

20th Street Auto
2000 E. Jefferson
Phoenix, AZ 85034
602-258-2020

When I bought the #3 mount section I was in Phoenix on business and selected a car in the yard as the donor. When i got the part delivered by UPS (I live in Jersey) it was significantly better than the one I picked out! The part appeared to be brand new. It was from an older model car - pre '76 with glass floors. So I had to do a little finangling to get it to fit the '82 steel floor pans, but so what. Did I mention it was like brand new?

When I discovered the rot at the #2 mount I called 20th Street and had them ship me a post '76 section because I also needed a portion of the steel floor pan. This part was also very nice, but showed its age and needed a little TLC to fix some surface rust.

I emailed them photos of my car hi-lighted with MSPaint ti show the areas I needed. They sent me exactly what I asked for.

I paid about $100 for the #3 mount shipped, and I think about $200 for the #2 mount shipped.

Thank you Black82, I emailed 20th ST Auto requesting my part. Now just waiting to hear from them.

Thanks again.
