I've driven both of mine (and the 74 too, when I had her) in the snow. Positraction on snow takes some getting used to, but I had no other problems. I will admit the defrosting system in a Shark is not the greatest (cabin heat is good, as all of us with Fish Feet can attest) and a genuinely heavy snow will max out the system (wipers and defroster), but winter cruising is definitely do-able. You should also consider we salt the roads in these parts less frequently than in your neck of the woods.
I agree that the posi is weird but works well in the snow. The only reason I wouldn't is the " what if " factor. It would be a shame to get hit in such a cool car. They are a blast to spin cookies in though !!!! :yesnod:
I would not even give it a try: bad traction, little ground clearance and salt-salt-salt. The latter will chew up the frame very quickly. We have all seen the photos of rotted and unsafe frames. My Corvette sleeps from November to April. I am fortunate enough to have a reliable daily driver with excellent traction and a strong heater; a new Impala. But if I was forced to own but one vehicle, I would not choose a Corvette.
Thanks to all for the input. For the record, this would be a beater Vette. Something that to the average person looks pretty good, but in actuality would be something I wouldn't even mind leaving in the local mall parking lot.
However, I am more concerned about safety then getting stuck. I've got an Eddie Bauer Explorer that I've blown over 3' snow drifts with without missing a beat. I just hate driving the thing. The wife likes it so I was gonna give it to her.
Have to think about this some more. All the comments really appreciated though.
Joe...One year while in Rockland I tried to race a snow storm down the east coast. It cought me in DC. Talk about a whie knuckle ride, never again. Those 17" tires were like ski :flag
You have to be kidding.........right?..........I live in Northern Ontario and you would not get very far in the winter........friend tried for a while and he spent more time trying to stay on te road than travelling........drive anything else in the winter.
