Default Garage floor paint?

Forum: What is a good paint/coating for my garage? Epoxy is out $485 ?
What are my other options for a no peal/chip floor? Is $200 unreasonable? TIA

Default garage floor paint

I did both my garages with Rustoleum EPOXY PAINT with non skid sprinkles for less than 50.00 a gal. 2 gal. did my 30X40 garage. The epoxy comes in blue and brown color. Its been on my floor for 3 years and still looks great. It gets alot of abuse also.

I used the Rustoleum Latex epoxy paint as well. Got it on sale at Lowes for I think 32 bucks a gallon. Took 2 gallons to do my 24x24 garage. It held up well to hot tires and chemicals. Only place it came off was where I dragged an engine block across it. Can't beat it for the $$.

Pianted garage floors look great. However, remember that once you put it on, like a wedding ring, you are married to it. That means maintenance, etc.

Rustoleum kits are about $50 each....each kit will do a single car garage. Good Stuff.

my brother did I think the rustoleum also in his garage. He's not a car guy at all, but the garage is a daily use garage, 2 cars in and out every day and it's been down for a few years with no problems at all.

Default Garage Floor Paint

I have a 4 car garage and like the looks of concrete.

I cleaned the floor real good with muratic acid, 1-10, lots of water on the clean up.

Mixed Min Wax Exterior Poly Varnish about 1-4 with mineral spirits, rolled it on.

Keeps the dust down easy clean up and touch up if needed. if gasoline is spilled, recoate.

This is a lot less mess than paint.

Love my epoxied floor. Durable, easy clean up and looks good. I'd stick with a two part epoxy and like any paint project, preparation is everything.

A lot of good info on garagejournal.com to help make your decision.

I've used a few different types of epoxy garage paint. I've had the best luck with the paint from Griots Garage.

Have you looked at the various types of tile. I used epoxy about 7 years ago and I have the hot tire problem where the paint comes up. This is something you don't have to worry about with tile.

I have had that happen with other garage epozy paints - The Griot's floor paint is like nothing I've seen before - ZERO lifting after 4 years.

I strongly recommend AGAINST Behr's one coat epoxy. I put it down on my floor and have not been impressed with it at all. I did all the prep work that was on the label. Washed, degreased, etched, primed and put two coats of the paint down and then a top coat of high gloss sealer. (all Behr's products). I even parked everything outside for 14 days as the labels indicated. Pulled in the garage and the first time I left the tires pulled up the paint down to the concrete. It will repel oil but only for a VERY short period. After the oil is there a day or two, the oil still comes up but the floor is badly stained. Very dissappointing. Next time I will look into Sherwin Williams two part product.

I responded to your other thread in 'general' - I used the HD paint, I think it's Behrs and had no problems.... heck, it's less than $25 a gallon, at that price I don't mind touching up once a year

BTW, I have to re-paint it anyways....the epoxy is about 16 months old .... somehow the floor turned blue .... I noticed shortly after I painted my car

I was going to spend about $1000 on U-Coat "professional grade" epoxy, but decided to spend $160 on Quickrete two stage epoxy. This stuff is strong and comes in many colors. The key is preparation - one spec of oil or grease will ensure something will lift. I park my cars on 2x2 rubber matts just to be safe (to prevent hot-lifting).

I have dropped wrenches from 5 feet and actually dropped one of the four hundred pound ramps from my lift (when I was unpacking it) and it put the smallest of scratches in the floor. The garage stays spotless now, I just mop the floor.

I had a high dollar epoxy floor put in and if all you are going to do is have a pretty garage go for it. But if you are going to build engines, cut steel, fabricate, weld etc. It's not worth it. I don't think I'd do it again. Ron B.

Did you put the Groit product right over the epoxy?

I went with U Coat it. Spent $1000.00 3 years ago. Floor still looks great. I spilled brake fluid, coolant, trans fluid, and gas on the floor, just wipes up. Brake fluid sat over night, no problem. I used other products on the floor but they all kept comming up.

Whatever you do make the right choice from the beginning. I didn't and I had to get the old product off the floor before installing the U Coat It. Your floor is only as good as what it will bind too.
