I took my old heater core to the radiator shop, they used my side tanks and recored it...cost me $35.00. Perfect fit..I had purchased the AC unit, and the fit was horrible, sent the core back.
In my limited experience with new heater cores, I find that generally the inlet and outlet tubes are poorly formed on ALL new heater cores. This stresses the core when installed. I ended up recoring my original Harrison unit locally and was happy with the results.
I bought a new core at NAPA. The tubes were not bent out enough to fit though the firewall. I took it to a local radiator shop and had them bend out the tubes to match the original heater core and then they reinforced the tubes. Went back in with no problems and runs great
Ordered the original GM heater core. I will post a pic of the harrison I took out and the NAPA one I will be returning. Workmanship is like night and day.
I'm surprised. The heater core I got from Napa was of good quality and almost identical to my original Harrison I pulled. I had it reinforced and pressure tested before I went through the trouble of putting it in and everything checked out ok. Too bad we can't always get high-quality replacement parts consistently.
