Default Simple Starter Motor Question

Hey guys, Im replacing my stock starter motor in my 1980 bcos the solenoid is gone -

so ive figured mite as well get a new & better starter -

i am thinking about getting a gear reduction high torque starter motor -

my only question is - as long as the bolt pattern is offset it will work fine, right?

or are there other things to place into consideration - or is it as simple as the bolt pattern being identical?

Many thanks for any replies/advice/help

You have to look at flywheel size. Some have a small and some large.

Yeah, that means it should work for both. If you questions that though, calling the manufacturer's tech support line should answer all your questions.

Richard this has both bolt holes for either a 152 or 168 tooth flex or flywheel.

Racecar cranking power.
Summit's lightweight Nippondenso-type Protorque starters offer a 4.0:1 gear-reduction ratio and a whopping 1.9 HP. That's 222 ft.-lbs of racecar cranking power. If that's not enough, there are even more powerful 3.1 HP monsters, which are a pound lighter! They have a 4.44:1 reduction ratio and churn out an awesome 342 ft.-lbs. of torque. Both of these powerhouses are suitable for engines up to 502 c.i.d., and compression ratios of up to 18.0:1. GM versions are adjustable for four mounting positions; Ford types, for 18. A gold dichromate finish prevents corrosion and electrical shorts on both.

my older 168 flex setup with a 9.5 inch 3800 stall torque converter

That's a very versatile starter motor. I keep forgetting to go look at what brand mine is. It wasn't cheap but it was an Ebay find.
