Well a while ago my A/C compressor died on me, and well I would like to replace it.... anyone recomend any compressors. I don't want to have to change everything.
At the very least, you should change the dryer, orifice tube, and flush the system. I'm not sure if your system has the VIR expansion system or the orifice tube. I don't recall which year GM changed it. If the compressor locked, the system will be full of metal and will need flushing.
Well looks like I am replacing everything.. $$$$$ Well then is there a replacement kit.. or something...haha.. Then I guess I'll take it to a shop for the rest... I might even wait now on doing this and resort to windows down t-tops off
Noo, your not replacing everything. Just a new compressor, dryer and either expansion tube or VIR. What year is your car? Might be a good time to do the r134 upgrade. Conversion kits are not expensive. Most good auto stores have them. For a bit more $$ (almost everything) a sanden compressor, paralell condensor will bring you into the new milinium
I have a 76'(sorry for not stating it earlyer) and my A/C system is old school. I'll probobly due the upgrade... I'll look up those parts you recomended...
Sanden compressor will mean new mount brackets, the condensor should be under $200, compressor under $200, conversion kit (seals, oil, gas etc) annother $100
Nutin to it...

Don't forget to upgrade your hoses. Have your old ones recrimped locally to save a bunch.

for most parts, same or better parts than Corvette venders at much better prices.
Don't be afraid of using a rebuilt A6 compressor, compatable with r12 and 134a and every bit as good as a new Sanden/Seltec.
Almost 100% of replacement compressor warranty claims has been found to be dirty/contaminated compnents/systems, not rebuilt compressors.
