Default Stress cracks and the cold.

Someone advised me to be careful driving my vette in cold weather...stress cracks. Is that a legit concern with these cars?

If they were, I dont believe the Corvette would have sold when they were daily driven cars. There is no need to be concerned about that happening.

Thanks for the replies guys. I thought it to be odd and I KNEW this was the place to get the skinny on this "urban legend".

BTW carguy, I assume when you say there is rust but no cracks you're referring to the underside of the car? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Stress cracks in Vettes are fairly normal but temp is not a factor.

To be clear, not all Vettes have them. I have a '76 with original paint which I bought new and it has no stress cracks. When they appear, most of these cracks are in "stressed" areas such as corners, headlights, etc. As you know, they're easy to spot as they look like a spider web.

Thanks for the info, btw Jud, as this is my first vette and its not here yet I am not familiar with how they look, I will know what to look for though. I didn't notice any when I checked out the car prior to buying.

Sometimes spider web like "indications" will show up at hood radius corners on body....others show up on front rubber bumpers....these bodies do flex..
