I'm trying to put a stock GM radio/ 8-track back into an 80 dash after someone bubbaed the original wiring by cutting off the old plugs and pulling and splicing into the wiring harness. Can anyone tell me what the 2 yellow wires are for. Car is equipped with power ant. but at this point I'm not sure it even works properly. If you can ID all 8 wires that would be great.
The gray wire will be the panel lights. The speakers will be paired wires, blue/black, green/black. Some radios had lthe pins identified on the case. Black is ground.
I've got 1 white plug with 2 wires ,1 brown and 1 gray.
The other plug is blue with 1wire lite blue and 1 wire dark blue.
Are these the speaker wires and does each speaker get a seperate ground?
This is a BIG help, that dash looked like a bowl of spagetti when I got the car.
Each speaker has it's own ground back to the radio. To find out which is which, take an ohmmeter and connect it to each lead. Process of elimination will get you which 2 wires go to each speaker.
I'd bet the plug with the gray wire is lights. Setup your meter for volts, red to the gray and ground the black one. Turn on the headlights and watch the voltage change when you dim the panel.

Anymore help? Do I need to ground each speaker,or does the ground come through the radio ground?

The blue one will likely be speakers.
Yep, your right the gray wire on the white plug is for lights.
The other two plugs are missing from the wiring harness itself.
I've got 2 plugs with the radio I got from ebay that I'm trying to make work. After pulling up some of the carpet, I find there are no rear speakers or original speaker wire. That's probably better anyway to just run new wire. Thanks for all the help
