i aquired a 72 coupe a few years ago and started a resto last april pulled door lock cyl out and had key made tried it in alarm and it didn;t fit tried it in tire lock same thing ,found ign cyl and key in box of parts tried that in alarm and trunk lock still n/g , how many keys and what did they fit p/s didn;t try in rear console yet too many parts still in back of car
i ment the spare tire lock someone also told me one of the locks had 3 pauls? so i don,t know which one to take to locksmith to have rekeyed also is the storage compartment the same
I have a 75, so I'm not sure about a 72...but, my door key is the same as the alarm key even though the alarm lock is on the fender. I think you should have one square one for the ignition. One round one for the door and alarm. One small one for the tire carrier. And, either another small one for the rear compartment or did they make the door key work for that also?...I'm not sure since my compartment lock was missing.
Should be 3 keys from the factory, square for the ign and 2 different rounds, one for the door lock and one for the alarm
Show me a picture of your trunk, mine does not have one.
I own a low mileage 72 and there are only TWO keys for it. One for locks and one for ignition. This is the way they were originally setup. If your car needs a separate third key, someone in the past has replaced one of your lock cylinders.
Only tried the alarm once and pretty sure the key for the door lock was different than the alarm key on my 73, car came with only 3 keys 1 square and 2 rounds. Guess it is possible either the door or alarm where rekeyed.

I bought my '76 new and they only gave me 2 keys. My door key fits the alarm, rear storage, and spare tire lock. So unless they changed things after '72 I think this is how it shoud be.

The 72 came with just two keys; one square and one round.
The square key is for the ignition switch and door locks.
The round key is for all other locks which would be the glove box, spare tire lock, and the alarm.
