Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (Corzvette69)
"while your at it" :jester
Just kidding. We all know how the "while Im at it" kills pockets and sanity. But if I was you, I'd do some things while I had the opportunity, like freshen up the engine bay, perhaps poly bushings up front(would be easier then if the fenders where on), perhaps new springs, shocks, tires even, the radiator could be replaced with a becool unit, while thats out you could swap in a hot cam for some fun for now, maybe some new heads....Man with that front end off, you can do anything! :jester
Just kidding, looks better then that picture with all the blood on the car :yesnod: Hopefully it will be done soon so you can get back to cruisin.
Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (daniel77350)
um.. where to start, the car has a new suspension in it. brand new 327 with less then 500 miles on it. but the freshening up of the engine bay is a must and first thing to do when i get it back.
Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (Corzvette69)
well in that case, just put a new clip on, and spray it white(I think it looks good on that car). keep us posted on the progress with pictures(pictures are better then words).
Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (Corzvette69)
I am very interested in your progress too, my 77 got the front end smashed this last saturday. Are you doing the work yourself? Are you putting on a one piece clip or panels? Looks like I'll be in for the same project here when the insurance companies get everything straight. Good luck. :seeya
Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (virtue4u)
I'm not gluing the panels on because I'm not experienced enough to do it alone. The Corvette Shop i work at is doing all the major crap. along with putting the header back chambered exhaust, replacing a u joint in the rear axle, and fixing my trans leak. when i get it back I'm gunna spray the nose of the car white and drive it till it starts to frost on the ground.
as far as the 77, as long as there is no frame damage, you will probably be looking at around 6500-8500 dollars to repair.
Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (Corzvette69)
I would paint the car Black. I had a deer jump over my Vette about eight years ago. I was at a red light in Beverly MA, which is a small city, and the deer came down the railroad tracks. The deer ran into a chain link fence and then turned and ran at the side of my car. It jumped right over the roof of the car, it is probably a good thing the T-tops were off.
Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (Corzvette69)
It appears that the deer WON  I was told by a reliable source that if you go fast enough that Vettes pass underneath large animals (like deer)upon impact. Minimizing damage. So that is why I always drive fast at night.
Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (Corzvette69)
Had to laugh when I seen "deer killer".
I had a '56 Chev when I was stationed in Almaden, California (near San Jose), and one night going up the mountain to work two deer came up onto the road on their way up the slope on the other side of the road. I hit one deer square on, it took out the bumper, grill and both headlights. It's mate tried to leap over the car and nailed the hood and windshield. Killed them both. They almost killed the car too, but with some buddies helping we got enough sheet metal parts from the local junk yard to repair the damage and repaint the deer-killer on base.
BTW: I would not want to hit a deer in my Corvette as he is jumping over the car. I'm afraid he'd take out the windshield and if I was going fast enough probably push me out the back window from the impact. Their bones can sure do a lot of damage.....
Re: update on deer killer.. aka 69 stingray (KenSny)
yea well that was the scariest thing thats ever happened to me behind the wheel (only 18, but I'm sure that will take the cake for at least a good 10 years) i was with a buddy and decided to hit it down this backroad. 80 mph later, I'm just starting to kool down and I check my oil pressure gadge then look up to see a deer leap onto my bumper destroying the headlight assy, bumper and half of the fiberglass. not to mention having half of a white car RED hehe.. after he hit me, i stood on the calipers instantly locking up all 4. i look in front of me to see whats up, i notice two cars coming the other way, a row of telephone poles and on the other side of the road where the deer jumped out was a little row of bushes. i aimed for the telephone poles BACKWARDS. hit a rock and ripped my exhaust right off. coming to a safe rest out in a field.
