I have my first Vette on its way. Its a 68 427/390. Its comming less the calipers. My plan is to spend the next forever restoring it. I would like to stay as close to original as possible. Just something Ive wanted to do. This is not my 1st or my 5th restore just my first vette..
Here are some pics of some calipers I bought. They were in really good shape. I just cleaned em up and painted them with an industrial paint.
Ive been reading alot of post's and I know alot of guys say they would paint the red.. Also should I put orings in. Are these sst? Are they sleved?. Are they orig to a 68?. And I hate to ask as Ive never had a car with disk's. The large pistons go to the front and the small to the back?? Any other comments?. I really appreciate any help...

You're right about the large pistons to the front. There is a left and right though. You want the bleeders on top when you install them. Where did you get the calipers? Hopefully they are stainless steel sleeved. I wouldn't worry about whether they have o-ring seals or those of original equip. Others will chime in on your other questions. Good luck with the car.
"original" calipers would all be #545 castings...just because they "look in good shape " doesn`t mean much, without taking them apart you will not know the real condition of what you bought and if they are sleeved or not.....

Would it be a good idea to go ahead and rebuild them?. Is it tough or expensive. The guy I got them from said he was upgrading and these worked fine when he took them off. I have no reason to think theres anything wrong, but you know how that goes... Thanks alot...

Excellent point and that's why I asked where he got them. If purchased from a reputable Vette parts vendor, they'll be okay. Anywhere else, I, like you, would be concerned.

BTW, if/when you take the calipers apart, see if the cylinders have been stainless steel sleeved. If they haven't been, see if you can get your $ money back and buy a set from a reputable Vette dealer such Vette Brakes in St Petersberg, FLorida or many others.
