There is a 81 not far from here sittin out in a yard. It runs, but the interior is shot, there is a HOLE above the left rear fender (you can see inside the car through it) other body damage all around........ I offered the guy 2000.00 but he wants 3500.00. I would love to give this car a better life, but.......Add this one to the list of vettes that will rot away. :mad
I know a guy with a 68 427/435 that he hardly ever drives. He had it out of the garage once this year. Hardly any miles on it at all, don't think the ragtop has ever been up, smokes like a chimney and he thinks it worth a fortune. One day I'd like to take the black book over just to see what he actually has but I doubt it's worth the 25-30K he would sell it for. I know first hand that low mileage vettes can be trouble if they haven't been well maintained even while they just sit. Everything goes bad, it costs more than it's worth to fix, but somehow, I still love mine. Everything has been well documented, just not routinely maintained. It is now.
I bought a basket case 78' from a guy who was holding out for 4500.
He stuck to his guns for about two weeks... then I showed up at his shop with thirty 100 dollar bills. They made a nice fat stack! Way too fat for him to say no. You get that many dead presidents looking back at you all at once and it can really bring someone back to reality. Good Luck!
Kens 78 is right on the mark. You show up with green, it's magical. Go with what is right for you, and chances are, the sight of all that paper will do it.
Actually I agree with the above - something very powerfull about telling a guy I have 20 $100 bills with your name on them and then showing him the affore mentioned stack of 100's.
Easy Mike, your gona get a kick out of this. Its his wifes car, she use to drive it, one day she got mad at someone, slammed on the gas, got sideways and slammed into something. :yesnod:
73Ken, I think you are right, even though the engine appears to be original, and he has done some repairs allready, I would probably be better of without her....
