Some of you know I just put a ZZ4 in my 74 Corvette. Tonight I put the passenger side header on and after bolting it tight, I see it's hitting the idler arm. These are Headman headers that came off my old 350 motor and they didn't hit before. The idler arm is new so maybe I got the wrong one. I don't have the old one so take a look at the picture and let me know your thoughts.
yeah I know the headers are rusted but I was going to buy some new ones soon. Maybe now is the time. Anyone install a ZZ4 and have the same problem? Did you replace the header? If so give me a part number and I'll order it tonight. Thanks for any feedback.
Last thing, there are no other holes in the idler arm or frame to be mistaken.
The3 -- I have a zz4 in my 73 vert and I have Jetthot headers. Header order # H2134. FYI -- it has been a year and a half since I ordered so the item number could be different. I am very happy with the headers.
I had the same issue, VBP heavy-duty idler arm, much thicker, had to "massage the pipe for 3/8" clearance. I put inexpensive Hookers on, not their fault, next set will be better researched.

I dimpled the header and there is now about 1/4" separation. I am going to see if it hits when the engine is running (vibration). If it doesn't then they will come off and be sent for coating.
bobs77vette, good idea. I will try and move it tomorrow to get more clearance.
I have a ZZ4 with Dynomax Ceramic covered headers and a heavy duty idler arm from NAPA. No clearance problems at all. Dynomax's are not very expensive and they were bent perfectly for the application. Only set of headers I've ever installed that fit right out of the box with absolutely modifications.
