Here is a link to a site with oil filter comparison. http://www.frankhunt.com/FRANK/corve...lterstudy.html
From this site it looks like anything made by champion labs is a good filter...some better than others. I have also heard wix filters are the best for the money. I will never run a fram filter....
Here is another link to this person's findings....as he says they are his opinion, but it is very informative to me...

I did some research the difference is the anti-drain back valve. It lets the filter hold oil if the pan and pickup is below the filter. Some engines have a check valve in the line / some don't. The valve will give you oil faster than one without - as you don't have to fill the filter first. According to an older engine builder, if the pump gets dry- it can dry -lock the pump, air -bound. He said in 45 years he never saw it but it's possible. He also said with modern oils it should never happen. It was more of an issue with single weight oil. People would put in 50 weight oil during the summer and then not drain it when winter came. When I start a motor I watch the oil gauge and the pressure always comes right up. I have used both with no noticeable difference. 1972, 1985 w/383, 1980 and 1968.
