Ok it's not actually me, but my buddy is getting ready to yank his L82 from his '76 for a rebuild. He's wanting to run a blower. He would like a roots style blower, but he's thinking that a Vortec unit would be better due to clearance issues.
So - we need advice for EVERYTHING. What's the best way to do this? Pistons, heads, rods, carb selection etc...
He's hoping to get something that will fit under a stock L82 hood or he'll buy an L88 style..
Thanks guys.

Thanks guys. BIG - I bumped your thread. Thanks for that link. I still need to get some idea of internals to run and compression ratio.
The static comp ratio should be adjusted according to the maximum boost you will be running. Since a blower does a great job of mixing the air/fuel mixture, you can usually run a dynamic comp ratio slightly higher than a normaly aspirated motor, probably close to 11-1.
The last blower motor I worked on was a 427 with a 8-71 Mooneyham compressor. We set the static comp ratio at 5.6-1 which allowed us to run about 22 pounds of boost.
Yes a 144. Here is a couple pics when I was installing last spring.
Have only put a few hundred miles on it since I am always away, as I am again.
Norval gave me some help with tuning last spring. Will be adding a 750 blower carb when I pull it out of storage in the spring along with a few more mods. Hopefully going to install a 200-4R and 3.55 gears also.

here is a link to the first supercharger upgrade i did last summer, every has changed with the new 6-71 project and i'll have pics of that here soon. http://jimluer.com/Images/Blower%20Project.html
Cool Thanks. But, no way that sucker is going to fit under a stock L82 hood with a carb.
Now that I think about it, I was thinking of the front pulley, not the carb. I had converted to throttle body fuel injection and although close, it fit. The manifold that comes with the supercharger is almost concave.
There is no way a 142 fits under a stock hood with a carb. The carb without cleaner on mine protrudes around 4 inches on my stock 71 hood.
4 inches?!?!? how different is the engine height and hood on a 71 vs a 76. Mine was close, but definately fit with a carb and no air cleaner. Can't imagine it sticking out that far. Does the B&M 144 have different dimensions then the weind 142?
