Default LS1 Exhaust Manifolds

Okay, another LS question for those that have the answers. Did you guys use the stock manifolds that came with the motor you bought or did you make your own manifolds? Are the Fbody manifolds better fitting or are the Ybody manifolds better fitting?

Discuss please.

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

I didn't go with headers for now so I used C5 Corvette manifolds. They fit great.
They also accept Ox sensors. I ceramic coated them. I will be manufacturing a header pipe for the stock manifold collector shortly.

I used cast c5 manifolds paid $40 for them at swap meet.Had to make flanges and had side pipes adapted to the manifolds.

Here is another version of the C5 manifolds. There isn't much room between the driver's side manifold and the steering box but I am planning to fabricate heat shields for the manifolds anyway. The tapped holes in the manifolds will make for an easy shield installation.

So, it looks like corvette manifolds are the way to go, correct. I have seen that they are fairly easy on the pocket. I was talking with Budman and he suggested that I try making some of my own headers. I am not quite convinced that I could do this but, I may just give it a whirl one of these days. I think I would go with the stock manifolds to begin with, then maybe later try to build my own.

Right now there is a set of exhaust manifolds off of a 99 vette in the for sale section for $30 plus shipping. Sounds like a good deal to me. When you got your LS1 setups, did it come with the manifolds when you bought it?

Most of them come with them, but most are f-body. $30 for a spare set is a good price.

Eddie, you are also going to need to fab up an adapter to make you clutch Z bar work. I don't think the LS1 has a place for the ball the screws into the block. It looks like there are plenty holes you can attach a tapped plate to.

Now, that brings up another opportunity for change. I could add a hydraulic clutch to the mix. Probably a lot easier to fabricate the adapter plate to the LS block and mount the Z-bar though.

Eddie, Check these Z06 manifolds out. They will flow better than the F-body stuff.

Buddy- will a C6 LS2 intake manifold work on a 99 LS1?

Thanks,
Dan

I would think yes, since the heads are basically 2004 ZO6 heads without the sodium filled exhaust valves. I haven't heard any issues with the C-5 guys bolting them on.

The intake is a different story.

Sweet find Dan. Makes me want to buy and hoard them up for later. Shipping on the 2nd set is almost as much as the bid price is for me.

I wound up buying a set off of a forum member. I got a set of 2001 Z06 manifolds and they look like new. I am well pleased with the way they look. Funny thing, they arrived tonight at 8:05PM. FedEx guy is working late tonight. I guess he wants off tomorrow.

Can someone tell me the center to center exhaust port spacing of these manifolds? Please! I have been asking this question to people on this forum for the past year and can't get an answer. I would really appreciate it. Thanks
