I might not be the right one to speak on this since I was lucky enough to get mine new and keep it a virgin BUT.............If this is the car of your dreams and this is the #1 thing going on in your mind then I am a firm believer of seeing these things out. I still hang with a high-school buddy from '75 who restored a '63 Impala 20 years ago and was asking himself the same things but in the end it was well worth it. Are two Chevys have done a lot of cruzin around over the years, and he wouldn't trade it for the world. It's just all about what makes you happy brother.................

You're talking a total of $23,000 on an 80 Corvette. You would be better off selling it as is and buying a finshed car for 10 grand.

I agree with SEVNT6-- "It's just all about what makes you HAPPY brother" If you like the car, then it's up to you. I've got a restored original 1924 Ford Model T setting in my garage. At best, I could get 11k for it, but no desire to make it go away- at any price. Too much personal history with that car. And I'm nowhere near that old. So you need to figure out where you want to go and then get there.

I have received lots of advice on this forum but the best advice was by a member who said he viewed his C3 as a hobby. He didn't worry about the money and time he put into his car vs. what he could sell it for. Instead of blowing, golfing, flying or some other hobby people use to occupy their spare time, he chose to work on his corvette. Because that's what he enjoyed.
I've looked at my car different ever since I read that here about two years ago. I really don't care what my car is worth to anybody else.

Last part first. Will it ever end? No.

First thing(s) to do is to make the car safely driveable. Brakes, suspension, steering. Whatever. It's much more of a pleasure to work on a car you can safely drive than to put the girl up on jackstands and tear into a frame-on restoration.

Have you considered rebuilding the L-48? You could get a decent driving engine and keep the crate costs in your pocket for something else. Let's face it, that crap engine you blew may be original.
