Late models I'm talking about is like from late C4 and C5.
Well C4s had the LT1 engines, which were a roller version of a Gen1, and with the exception of the accessories...depending on where you got it...they fit right in. There were some minor things to change...but it's a bolt in.
Then there was the LS1. It has cousins, LS2, LS7, and now the $25K LSX. The LS motors will fit...but it costs a lot of money and it's not a simple drop in.
I would suggest you narrow it down to what you want to put in, and go from there.

That depends on what year C4 you're talking about. Early C4 L98s were standard 350 Gen I roller blocks. LT1/LT4 from 93 up are Gen II block.
I have an L98 TPI from a 91. Several have LSx engines. I'm sure there are a bunch with LT1s as well. Do a search on my username and TPI and you will find my install suggestions on a TPI. LT1 is similar, but you have to use LT1 accessories. LSx is vaguely similar, but you have to do more mods. That said, if I was doing it today, I would do an LS engine.
I am in final stages of putting a 2000 C5 LS1 engine into my 79 vette. Also using a camaro T56 tranny. Lots of folks have done this conversion - as others said, search and you will find some. LS1tech.com is a great source if you do this. You can also do LS2 or LS7 - but more used LS1's available for lower costs....
