Default rear main seal

in process of changing oil pan gasket,oil pump and rear main seal.cannot get plate off between oil pan and flywheel.remove 4 boltsand side next to filter drops down but other side acts like something is holding it.do you have to remove starter to get it out the way. it goes between block and starter.i don't see any more bolts

Sometimes that dust shield just has a hole in it that goes over the starter. Usually, the trans cooler lines are under it far enough that it appears to hang on the starter. Unless it's holding really tight above the starter, or you can verify there is nothing over the starter nose, it should come down with a bit of effort.

When you get the pan,pump, and rear cap down make sure you get the wide seal to put back in. Less chances of a repeat leak..

If your car has a standard transmission then the starter must be removed in order to get the cover off. With automatics, the cover will slip down without removing the starter.

Hi I'm Bubba,

If you anticipate having to remove this cover again, and dont want to have to take the starter out again.... do what I did... cut the cover so you can slide it on and off without removing the starter.

FYI - I did this to an aftermarket cover I bought and not the one that came on the car.

cannot get cover out.it hits hedders on both sides. can you replace seal with cover on ?
