I have posted a new article in the Corvettefaq.com site. This one is an article I found in <cough>Sport Compact Car magazine<cough> and is a good primer on the theories governing downforce and how wings and front airdams, etc, can help. Since I know next to nothing, I found the article a good read. Perhaps those with more experience (gkull) may have more to add or may think this article sucks. If thats the case, I apologize in advance. http://www.bokonon.net/corvettefaq/c...orce/index.htm or you can dig thru the corvettefaq site and find it under 'Exterior' articles.
The other day I was in Summit waiting for someone and they have a whole isle of books. I was surprized to see one of the old HP series books that I must have bought 20 years ago on "How to Make Your Car handle" it shows a whale tail Porsche on a road coarse on the cover.
Nothing has changed the laws of physics. So I enjoy every article.
This is the time of year when you can go out on a rainy day and learn something about frontal down force on your car. All you have to do is apply a really nice wax surface so water really beads up. Then you go out and drive at freeway speeds in the rain. You will really be disapointed in a stock C-3. The water will sit still from about the highest points on the fenders back to the windshield. So what it's telling you is that you have massive front end lift. So then go buy some 1 inch shorter spring or lower profile front tires and you will actually see the dead air water bead line move back towards your window with the increased body rake.
Terryrudy You might find it interesting, But the Nov. issue of CHP has a little note about the 230+ MPH Vette of Rick D. getting all bashed up in the last Nevada open road race. He went over a small bridge with a bump and the car caught enough air that he went sailing at over 200. He needed just a little more frontal down force also!
;)
thanks for the posts guys.

PS: Updated that link (and others) Rhys. I guess corvetteforum doesn't accept http://corvetteforum.net addresses anymore, you need the http://www.corvetteforum.net addressing now. THANKS.

Gkull I've got that article. When they went airborne, the left rear tire blew causing them to slid into an embankment. Amazingly as banged up as the car was afterwards, the area where the passengers sat looked good, thank god for rollcages! I can't imagine crashing at such speeds. Glad they were both ok afterwards.
Thanks for sharing the interesting article Terry .
