Default Windshield rot - methods to diagnose??

Hi - I've been reading many posts (and posted a few) on windshield rot.

I know I have some on the vertical side pieces as it was visible from under the trim.
I plan to remove the window to check the extent and repair for those pieces.

But what about the lower windshield area? Is there any way to tell how bad the rot is down there without removing the front clip? Any place to 'stick an awl'? Can you see from the inside kickpanels (doesn't appear so).
Will the extent be apparent once the windshield is out?

Also - I've seen many posts on removing the front clip. I haven't, however, seen many on reinstalling it. I'm sure there must be more to it than lining it up and gluin' it on!! Just like to know what I might be in for if I need to pull it.

Thanks - Gary

Check out the pics I put in this thread

Unfortunately there is no access to the lower WS frame corners with the clip in place. One guy posted pics where he cur the back corners off the fenders, not my taste but I guess it worked for him. before you take it apart, pull the kick panels and stick a water hose on the lower corners of the ws frame and see if it comes in on top of the #2 mounts. That will tell you if there is a leak there.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the reply SixFooter. That thread is very helpful in me understanding what I may be fighting.

Do you happen to have any pictures or detail on how you reattached the front clip?

On my '79 I can see the inner portion of the passenger side birdcage by taking out the glovebox liner...unfortunately I also see rust when I do this!

best of luck

PS: Fill out your profile so we know what year of C3 you're playing with

Front Clip pics will follow when I get that far. Last night I fabbed the patch for the big hole in the lower corner of the WS frame.
