Default Temperature sender help (different sizes?)

Im putting a Ram Jet 350 into my 69 and just found out that the original temp sender wont fit into the head on the Ram Jet. As you can see in the pic the plug that came out of the Ram Jet head is much smaller. Does anyone make a smaller temp sender with the single pole wire hookup? If not, what do i need to do to get my temp gauge working?

Get one off a newer model I think. Maybe I'm wrong but I do remember them getting smaller I just can't remember when.

You can either drill and tap the head for the larger sensor (I went this route) or you can go to the hardware store and find an adapter (or two) with the appropriate threads.

Did the senders get smaller at a certain year though? This comes up a lot.

'78? '79? It was a specific year, but I'm at a loss to tell you which one exactly. I know when I asked for the smaller sender for my '71, I just ordered one for an '82. Then I Dremel'd the blade connector to fit in my pin connector housing and it works fine!

Did a little more checking - 1979 was the first year of the smaller threads, and the sender should be the same through '88.

That's what I was thinking was the case.

I'm not sure about the 79. I build a new engine with Dart heads about 3 years ago and the original senders for my 79 L82 were the larger size and had to fab adapters from the local hardware.

1979 was the first year for the change from a 1/2" NPT to 3/8" NPT..
