Looking at a 71 LT-1 that a friend of mine is going to sell in a couple of months. The car has not seen the road in 13 yrs. It has the orig. eng., trans and rear end and has 74,000 orig. miles. It needs a paint job and interior work. The eng. compartment needs to be cleaned up. The car basically needs to be restored. The frame is solid and I saw no evidence of body damage. He said the car ran fine before it was left to sit. My last two vettes were mid-years so I really dont know much about C-3's. It has no shielding and does not have the orig. distributor. Did all LT-1's have transistor ignitions? If they do, it does not have one. When it gets warmer out he's going to put new brakes on it and get it running so we can take it out for a test ride. From this brief description, what can I expect to pay for a car like this? Thanks for any help.
If minimal rust and needs minimal body work,..$15,000? Hard to say, but if she's a complete numbers mathching LT-1, $15,000 should work for both seller and buyer.
Of course the buyer would spend another $15,000 and end up with a car worth $25,000,..but reason, logic, and common sense are thrown out once the word 'Corvette' is added to the equation.
And the seller? He'll wake up twice a month in the middle of the night asking, "why did I sell that Vette".

Yes. All 1971 LT-1 optioned Corvettes had the magnetic pulse transitorized ignition system. This consists of a special coil, distributor & amplifier with wiring harness.
