Default Another 18 x 8 Rim Question...

Anyone run 18" x 8" set up all the way around? I'm looking at a P255/50 or 45 tire on that rim size. Will this set up rub?

Pics would be great.

Thanks.

Rob

You may have to trim the Front lower wheel wells similar to the'78-82's. I'm running P255's on 18X9" wheels on a '75 & had to trim the wheel wells. A belt sander works well.

I currently have P255/60/15s with no rubbing. I 'm trying to keep a similar wheel diameter. I'm just nervous about the 18s on front. I see most people run 17s on front and 18s on rear.

I have 18"x8" on the front (18"x9.5" rear) with 245/40/18's and have no clearance issues.

Your car looks great. Where did you find the 18" Rally wheels? The 9.5" fit on the rear without modfication? What size tire are you running on the rear?

Sorry for all the questions.

Remember that just because your increasing wheel diameter, the overall wheel tire combo doesn't change the overall diameter because of the lower profile of the tire. The 18" combination is still about 26" in diameter as was the original F70-15 tire.

18"x8" with 255/45 tyre will have the same rolling radius as 15"x8" with 255/60 tyre.

Paul,
What back spacing are your 18x8 wheels? Could you post a picture of your car with those wheels.

Sorry for all the questions.
Sorry for the delay in coming back, Ive been travelling!

Thanks for your kind words about my car, the wheels are alloy 18" replicas of std. Rallye's and are made by The Newstalgia wheel Co, here's there website http://www.newstalgiawheel.com

For the rear wheels the only thing I had to do was re-locate the parking brake cable to the top of the trailing arm, a fairly std. mod.

You can see more of my car on my web site at www.GraemeInglis.com

Cheers

Graeme

A 255/50 on an 18 would be very tall (28 inches) and would very likely rub. Stay away from that size.
