Just got my 80 Coup back tonight with all new interior, including door panels, rear compartment doors and frame and new seats with new foam 4". It's like buying a new car, smell and all. I'm still not happy about Ecklers Carpet and the tremendous amount of trimming that had to be done, but it's nice to see what it looked like when it was new. It cost me almost $500 to have it installed. Does that seems like a fair price? I'm pleased with the job that he done. :flag
Well, I did mine myself. I believe it took me all day to put my carpet, compartments, seats and center console back in. $500 seems a bit high to me. I am glad I did mine myself.
I have a question. If I take out my interior, 100% of it(upper and passanger side lower dash included, not drivers), as well as the center console, and all the trip, including the steeringwheel. How long am I look at this taking me? Also, if I paint all these parts sunday morning, while Im installing my new carpet, do you think I could have the car back together sunday night? Is this a rediculous window? Of course i will take my time to get it absolutely perfect(or as close as I can), but is what Im looking at to daunting? Should I plan to be in this project through tuesday or wednesday?
Unless you are superman (and work at the speed of light) I don't see how you are going to do all that in your "window of time".... Lots of Luck. I did all that but it took the better part of 2-3 months (don't know how many hours, mostly weekends and evenings), including the prep and painting, and I think it will take you a lot longer than you can imagine because I seem to be "hearing" from your question that you don't have much experience.
One more thing, you will find other problems that chew up the time. I found the storage compartment screws were rusted solid - those little buggers had to be drilled out and then retapped before I could even get the rear carpet out. When I pulled off the rear window frame, it released some pressure on the glass, guess what? I noticed where the sealing tape was gapped and water good come in. Out came the window. When I had the door panels off, I fixed the slow electric windows. Required new rollers, and in order to do that I had to take the glass out to get the tracks apart.... on-and-on-and-on. You said you want to do it right and in order to do that a lot of extra needs to be done just because it's easier to do it then as later.
