Default Intake exhaust crossover blocking ?

Hi

For a good weather driver , is there any nownows of blocking off the intake exhaust crossover ?
What is that good for anyway ?
We are trying to keep the intake air cool by adding all kinds of cool air induction systems, like L88 induction, but heat it up again with this exhaust crossover circuit.

I was wonedring about closing it off on my tri-power 435 HP setup.

Block it off. No need for it for a street toy. The intake gets too much heat anyway. You can block it with a peice of sheetmetal beween head and gasketor gasket and intake..either way it will compress into gasket and seal it off. Many Fel Pro gaskets come with a plate already.

I always stuffed them full of good aluminum foil and used the steel blocks in the gaskets. Good if you don't need choke or use an elec choke.

Helps keep the carb a little cooler if you have fuel problems.

A little longer to warm up maybe

It is OK if you have an aluminum intake. Cast iron intakes will take WAY too long to warm up to operating temp if you block them. Mixture will be wrong the whole time.

If you do decide to block it, make sure you do something about the heat riser valve at the exit from the passenger side exhaust manifold. Remove it, wire it open or replace it with a spacer. You do not want it to close if you have the intake passage blocked. No way for the exhaust to go out on the passenger side.

If your tri-power has the stock intake manifold like mine does, your choke will not work. It's bimetallic spring works off of intake manifold heat from the crossover. You can go to no choke, or I guess an electric if you want.

Hi

Oh yes, I forgot about the choke.
That probably needs the heat to open early enough.
OK , will keep it operative and if it's giving trouble, will convert to electric choke and block the crossover.
Heat riser valves ? The car is running Hooker side exhaust.

Thanks for all ideas. Günther

Screw the choke & remove the crossover valve.

You can fab a longer choke rod that will open the choke sooner (the rod from the thermal spring to the carb). Start with about 1/4" longer than stock.
