Default new 72 vette owner

Just bought a 72 vette with aledgely 63,000 miles. Just put new seals in the rear since there was a lot of grease and grime around the rear. now I seam to have a noise in the rear when I'm of the gas or cruising with a light pedal. Donlt know if it did it before because I live in the north east and only drove it a few miles after I got it and the weather turned bad. also after my drive this am I noticed some smoke when reved up parked but none noticed when driving it hard (Valve seals ?Clevite 216-1021 seals were in a box in the car when I got the car but not sure how the install on the stem (pressed on or just pusjed on the guide stem?)
I would appriciate the help
Thanks

Tim,
When you installed the new pinion seal did you mark the nut where it was before removing it or did you just remove the nut yoke, and replace the seal and tighten the nut tight?
Valve seals will cause it to smoke on start up.

Where in the NE are you?

Congrats on the new purchase. Like everyone else with a new ride, you'll be chasing down odd noises and other issues for the next few months- Good Luck!

You really need to replace the crush sleeve when you replace the pinion seal. Did you change the diff oil at the same time?

The smoke sounds like valve seals. Not an impossible job. Need a spring compressor and a way to keep the valves closed while you change the seals.
