Default heater hose routing

I am ready to hook up my newly installed heater core but am not sure where to connect the nipples. I have a big block '68 and just want to make sure what goes where. My guess is to disconnect the short hose from the termostate housing into the top of the water pump. Connect both nipples as follows.. One into the top of the water pump and the other into the thermostat housing. Can anyone confirm my plan
thanks

Lori,
I may be wrong on this 'cause I don't have a big block, but I think the small hose you want to remove is the by-pass hose and it should be left in place. Your water for the heater core,I think should come from the water pump, Thru the core and back to the intake. Any way that is how I remember them from 30yrs ago!!!
Good luck!!!
