You know how the plug wires cross all over on HEI caps & don't make for a clean install? We've all seen the "crossfire" cap but those often didn't perform well. Here's something "new":
Was browsing new Accel catalog for other info & stumbled on this. Accel is now making a "corrected" cap to address the plug wire jumble ... has cyl 1357 on driver side of cap & 2468 on passenger side ... clean. These for large HEI that has coil in cap.
Accel P/N
8138K (black)
8138R (red)
8138B (blue)
8138 (plain ol' accel tan)
Dunno how these new corrected caps from Accel perform? ... but for years their other caps have been fine.
Checked Summit...but caps must be new as they(Summit) does not have an on-line price for them. Has anyone called in to have them add these part numbers?
I tried to order this cap from Summit and they said they did not have them and they were discontinued.I said its a new part # how can it be discontinued?Summit said there is a patent infringement going on with Accel and the inventor? This was about 6 months ago.
These aren't new. There is a picture of a small-block with a similar cap on the front of an old Smokie Yuick tuning book I have.
I asked about them at a tuning shop when I was on vacation in Canada, and apparently there is a problem because the conductors have to cross over inside the coil, and if using a high voltage ignition there is good chance of arcing and burning within the cap.
Maybe this has been solved, but I'm just passing on information I was given

These Accels are new ... the old cap you speak of is probably based on the problem crossfire cap I reference in initial post ... old crossfire is a modified stock cap & often had performance problems. These Accel caps are new and designed from scratch to change firing order. Still ... I dunno how the new cap performs because it's ... NEW!
