Default Yellow73SB's future modification discussion

I'm thinking about biting thebullet and putting 1000# springs in. I've spoke to a few people andthey said they run 1000# springs and are wanting even stiffer. Solid bushings should be coming this week.

Also the roll cage. I don't think the red bar would really help anything nor the cross bar between the TA mounts. What would you recomend for the main hoop cross bar?

the red bar is critical for proper triangulation, without it the front section loads directly into the middle of the bar running from frame rail to hoop and will put a bending force on it which leads to distortion and loss of rigidity,

Yeah that's what I was thinking. It will make it easier to get into with that design but will weight more. It would also offer more protection. I don't want to make a 12 point.

Good luck getting them to divert it. I don't think they would call USPS to tell them.

What do you think about the 1000 pound springs?

it depends.

you gonna drive to Watkins Glen or trailer?

You don't have a wife to complain about the harsh ride so go ahead.

Most likely trailer unless I build a pump gas freindly motor. This one only wants to run on race gas

Great thread-- With a big front swaybar and race shocks, you should be fine with 1k springs. Aren't you also running Goodyear slicks? You might as well bite it and dedicate the car to race trim.

I like your ideas for the rollcage. Do you have any ideas on what it would cost to have it installed? I need the same setup and I don't weld. (At least not my own life-saving equipment!) I'm not concerned about neatness or hiding it, I'm just searching for $$$ involved.

I would be making it my self so no estimates. It might not work with stock door panels. I need to look into it more

I was thinking that the front bar and red bar were unnecessary.

Just to give you some idea, I paid $500 for my 5-point bar (custom bent), not including stripping out the interior and pulling the gas tank.

I assume the front bar runs to the a pillar and the other one is running along the seat, in which case the front one would add a good bit and then if you do that one you need the red bar as to not side load the other one.

Some Ideas.... You really need to consult your sanctioning organization's rule book.

Material specifications vary quite a bit from organization to organization as do specific placement of stuctural members. Diameter, wall thickness, alloy, and forming ERW/DOM are usually spelled outusually by weight & class. You might find specific requirements for gussets and plugs. You can't have any kinks or dents in the tube wall and you'll likely have to drill an inspection hole or two to prove wall thickness.

Roll cages may require a log book...

have fun

Yeah I finally found a santioning body that is local. I will make the cage to svra standards as I want to race that eventually(10years? ). I'm doing autcross right now and that doesn't even require a cage. But just incase an event pops up that requires one I'll be covered.

An issue that concerns me is how to attach the bars running foward to the frame.
