Default 1980 Corvette Rebuild Interior Questions

Hello all. I am going to start ripping out my interior and replaceing it. I found a couple of decent sites willcox.com or ecklers.com. I am fairly retarded when it comes to cars and I just want to know if anyone knows that these are the best and least expensive sites. Or if you know of a better one. Any help is greatly appreciated. I live in CA...shipping costs are expected. Thanks guys...I look forward to your answers.

And if there is anything special I need to know please, please tell me.

I would compare Wilcox and Corvette America.
Steer clear of Eckler's. (IMHO)

Al Knoch, Dr. Rebuild, Zip, Last Detail, Corvette Central, Paragon Reproductions all carry interior pieces. EC products, Knoch and Corvette America are the primary maufacturers of the parts carried by the others. Just search for the best deal. Most of these vendors will do a package discount.

I made a list of everything I wanted then went surfing at each Corvette place and compared prices on the parts, on the shipping costs and whether they would knock a few bucks off if I placed a pretty big order

I like MadVet.com, Invoices are very clear and easy to get ahold of someone for CS, ask for Alex. Just watch out for backorders, took me 4 weeks to get in some stuff

just be very clear and specific on your order and verify everything. there seems to be a scam in overly expensive shipping. recently rebuilt '79 and i found my hugest waste "for example"was ordering a set of window glass seals and only getting one and having to reorder the 2nd and pay shipping again when the set would have easily fit in the tubular container it was shipped. You can say it was an error on my part but you can bet your a$$ they see a signifigant increase in profits at the end of the year due to their shipping price scam. Don't depend on them for suggestions. As was stated above in a response try and order a pkg and get everything in least amount of shipments. Also on the reverse of that if you do order something you "might" need and have to send it back because it wasn't necessary you've paid round trip shipping fees on it so you've lost 35% "example"of your investment in shipping. conveniently they have a swap feature on their return invoice so that money will go towards another product instead of an actual refund.again you pay shipping if you use that feature. They love shipping and returns. Other than that i bought from several. Mid America & Ecklers would be the ones i will go to last for a product if ever in need again, poor customer service. I did a complete interior and exterior color change and i must say, of all the stuff i bought, the door panels was an improvement from original, everything else was lacking. Beware of exploded pictures, they make things look nice and thick and well made and when you take it from the UPS man its like grabbing a piece of paper, especially in carpetry & mats. Took my seats to a custom shop for recovery, somehow i think that was probably my best move. I prefer cloth.I would suggest insulation under carpet if you are replacing, you will kiss the floorboard after your first drive. google automotive insulation and get the aluninum backed, DO NOT buy the bubble wrap garbage at your local home improvement center.Goodluck

I dunno what he's like on interior parts, but you would do well to contact tracdoogg2 - he's a member in here. He was able to get me all my front end bits at a great price! Send him a PM with what parts you're after and see what he can do

I had great service from Ecklers since 2001 with no problems.

On the other hand, others seem to be cheaper for certain items.

I would personally stay away from Eckler's...it's not the company it used to be imo.

I don't buy from the exclusively, I shop around and see who I'll get the best deal from, including shipping etc...

But I've also been pi$$ed around by some of the "other" companies - companies that some members swear by. However, fastcorvette have about as much chance of getting money out of me ever again as me growing a 3rd eye!

I am currently restoring the interior on my 81 - I shopped around, Seats and Dash Pad from Al Knock - the rest from MAD, Covette Central and Corvette America. I did order for Ecklers with no problems and great service. I guess any business can have a problem from time to time. Good Luck - document everything and take pics. Then replace in reverse order.
