Default Question on heater box

Will a non A/C heater box fit over the hole left by an A/C system. I'd like to remove the A/C, looking at pictures the A/C box looks larger.
Thanks

I have been looking into doing the same thing and from what I understand it's close but I'm not sure.

i'm going from no a/c to factory style a/c. my AIM shows a larger cut out in the firewall. i haven't gotten that far yet, but you may have to patch the larger cut out.

A friend of mine also wanted to get rid of the a/c on his -69. We tried if the non a/c heater cover from my -72 would fit but it doesn't. The end with the blower motor is the same but the other end of the cover is a little too short and shallow.

I can't tell much from the AIM, has some added data for mounting holes but doesn't say much about cutout size unless I'm on the wrong page??

There is a company that was working on making a delete plate for the C3, for people that wanted to delete the A/C and heater core altogether. Last I heard it would be ready for sale by early this year. I will try to dig up the company and see if it's ready.

Edit: americangraffiti.biz

It'll be ready for sale in two weeks.

Maybe $139.00

As Of About 3 Weeks Ago The Ac Delete Was Still In R&d For That Company. I Bought A No Ac Box For My 76 And It Would Not Cover The Firewall Hole. Not Long Enough.

Yep, they finished the mold and it's in production now as we speak. He said the delete plate would be updated into the website and priced around $139 in two weeks.

Durango_boy , thanks for your replies about the cover. Is this a full unit that basically takes place of the origional A/C assembly? Is there a website where this can be seen at? I'm going to remove all heating also I will not need it. thanks again.

Hey that's the answer, I'd say that's the best answer to A/C delete. Thanks very much for the info.

Or you can just go to the Depot and get some sheet metal, adhesive sealing foam, some hardware and do it yourself for under $10. Your wallet will thank you.

True, but in some applications the A/C delete will let you keep the use of the heater core and blower fan.

Don't spend a bunch of money on a block off plate. As strokervette said, it's just a flat plate, I sure can't see why a product like this would be in "R&D" and I certainly don't see why someone would be making a mold for a plate.

You are correct, the AC box is slightly bigger than the non AC and the cutout is slightly bigger also. I have converted my non AC car to AC, others have done the same and others have done the reverse. A search of the archives will come up with information. Also the cutout information for both is in the AIM.

That's a good point, as I'm not using a heater core. But I can also think up a couple different ways to mount one in there if I decided to keep warm in the winter. Oh, wait a minute I sold the blower motor too.....nevermind. Uhhh.....wait a minute mabey I could just put a secondary cooler in there with a small electric fan, some homemade shrouding and plastic pipes. It be a heck of alot cheaper than the O.E.M equip and simpler. I really don't plan on driving my vette in adverse conditions like we had today, it takes the fun out of it. It's like when I had my streetbike, it never saw rain, snow or salty roads and I still got my fill of riding it every year.

P.S. I also don't care about keeping my car original as it was already tinkered with by good ole dad through the years. The delete plate does look the business though and would keep the engine bay real clean looking. To all his own.

Why are you guys taking off the A/C?

I don't have it on my 68 but would like to, anybody want to trade?

Here's my take on why most guys take it off.

If it's so hot you need A/C, then you have to put the tops on and put the windows up. I personally don't enjoy driving the Vette as much if it's both that hot, and closed up like that. If it's that hot I'd rather drive my DD.
