Default Leak!!!!!

I have a 72 small block. The bottom of the fuel pump has coolant on it after I drive the car. The top of the fuel pump stays dry. Just one small drop of coolant on the back of the water pump. I put a paper towel on the bottom and back of the water pump and it came out dry. There was one very small drop of coolant on the bottom of the timing chain cover. All the hoses are dry. I've let the car get up to temp. and checked for any leaks under the car and from the top. Even had someone hold the engine at 2500 rpm. Nothing. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's from the weep hole. It is a sign of coming bearing/seal failure.

I was seeing the same type of drops of coolant around those same areas on my vette. I also thought it was the pump going bad and that it was coming from the weep hole.

After removing the pump I found that the pump was perfectly fine and that the pump gaskets between the pump and block were going bad... causing a minor leak that was hard to trace because it would leak only slightly down the block and find its way to the parts you see the drops on.

After I replaced the gaskets I didn't have anymore leak. Gaskets are cheap.

Put a new water pump on today and the problem is solved. Looks like there was just enough water coming out of the weep hole on the old pump to make a mess.
