Default Carpet Installation

I am confused. During the installation of carpeting in my 79. When I removed the driver side kick panel there is no vent like the one on the passenger side. The Assembly manual shows a detailed picture of this and it clearly shows that there is a vent on both sides. Does anyone know why this is?

Don't hold me to this ... but it might have to do with whether car has A/C or not ... Does yours have A/C. Again, I'm NOT saying I'm certain A/C-NO A/C is at issue ... just maybe.

I have a '76 and I'm fairly certain that there is no vent on the driver side.

i have a 73 w/ac.the passneger kick panel has a flapper contoled by a vaccume accuator, its not a vent,it closes in a/c mode which lets fresh air get cooled, when you select max air it opens this vent(but closes the one in the wiper well) which is re-cirulate mode for the a/c which re-cools cabin air closing off fresh air..there is no vent on the drivers side.so the answer to your question is its not a vent persay on the passenge side, its more like a control for recirculating the cabin air in a/c max air mode,,,here;s the vaccume diagram on this look at the green/orange tracer vaccume lines,,these are the lines controlling what im talking about------------------------------

Driver's vent is for non-A/C cars.
