Default battery drain on 1968

hi all, my battery , if left hooked up, will kill itself in 1-2 days. I was reminded of this little problem today as I discovered that I had forgotten to replace it after last drive

i have the headlights almost repaired, waiting on parts, need to solve this electrical problem. Any suggestions on where to begin??? Apparently there is a component still drawing current after ignition switch is off. This is where I need you experts!

Thanks

Pull the negative cable off your battery and hook a 12 volt test light between the cable and the post. Start pulling fuses (courtesy lights first) until the light goes out. The one that puts the light out is the culprit. And make sure the courtesy light switch (headlight switch) is off too.

If the light never goes out, it may be a bad diode in the alternator, or a your voltage regulator is stuck..

Start the car.

Turn on the windshield wipers

Turn them off

Shut off the car.

Then try the test light to see if the battery still drains.

There is something goofy in the 68 wiring for the windshield wipers. If you bump the switch with the car turned off it will start to drain the battery. It will do this until you reset it by turning them on and off with the ignition on.

The courtesy lights, especially in the compartments, as the plunger sticks leaving the light on, are known for drawing pproblems. Before you start pulling fuses. Turn all the lights out in the garage and take a look at your car for and interior lights. Remember to have a flashlight with you!!!!!

Yes, Check the center rear storage compartment. It has a light in it. If it isn't adjusted properly when closed the light remains on. They even provided a supplemental piece to provide better contact from the factory. Your problem may be something else, but worth checking.
