Default Oil pump standard volume spring ??

Where can I buy a standard pressure spring for my Melling M55HV oil pump ???

I bought the HV version because the casting (housing) is thicker. I compared the $15 M55 and the M55HV in the store today - the M55 looks very flimsy

I heard that both springs come with the pump, that's why I went back to the store today (bought the pump yesterday). We opened a M55 and a M55HV box and both came with only one spring - the one that's installed.

They do not sell these springs - they do however sell a repair/rebuild kit that includes the spring.
The kit is $17, two dollars more than the M55 pump

I'm about to break down and buy the standard M55 pump just to get the lower (standard) pressure spring....

You can't make a standard volume pump out of a high volume pump. You are talking about the pressure relief valve spring. There is a high and a standard. Some HV pumps come with high pressure springs some with standard....check the part number
Summit lists the m55hv as high volume standard pressure

I meant pressure, not volume... ooops..... gotta edit the first post....

I quoted this from the other oil pump thread here in tech....

It's very easy to swap the springs, and if yours didn't come with that plain standard pressure spring...you can get one for a few bucks.
IMHO the Melling is a tight tollerance heavy duty well made pump.
Eddie

I have the pink spring installed although I did not want a HV HP pump, HV is fine but I would prefer standard pressure.

My M-55HV came with the extra standard spring & pin sealed in a plastic bag, with instructions on how to install. Thought they all did. I just recently swapped my spring for standard so I didn't make this stuff up.
Eddie
P.S. Go to Melling website...maybe available through them...
good luck

I didn't mean to sound like I was saying you're making this up.

They probably stopped including the spring to increase their profit a few cents per pump.... these springs must be expensive, remember, their repair kit cost more than the pump...

Do you still have your old pump? If it is standard pressure use the spring out of it

Default Oil Pump Spring

Don't be putting old springs back in new pumps. Not a good idea. If you have the hi-volume pump leave the spring in there that it came with from Melling.

This is the same spring used in the LT-1 Vettes and in the early DZ Camaro's. It's Melling number 98015 and pink in color. This is also the same spring used in the "A" pumps from Melling. The "A" pump is nothing more than the stock M55 pump but with the pink spring already installed.
