72 coupe...350 K engine
new Accel points and wires
New Accel coil
Mallory dual point distributor changed to electronic
I have 13.8 volts at the battery...
with ignition switch on...12.7 volts at the + side of the coil
when cranking it drops to 8+ v on the - side of the coil
with ignition switch on ....12.7 v at the alternator
with ignition switch on ... 12.7 v at the end of the coil wire going into the distributor
when checking ignition coil switching (I am notsure if this is a useful test for this age car) I register less than 50 RPMs
Any thoughts? I appreciate and thank for your suggestions
I'm a bit interested in the 8 volts on the - side of the coil. The - side of the coil should go the points, or module in your case. If it was a standard points ignition, the + coil should go to the ignition and the -coil should go to the points. If a coil is backwards it will work, but be hard to start. And seeing the 50RPM on the switching circuit tells me the module is working- seeing the rotation..
The ignition is wired to the + side of the coil...but so is one lead (red)from the three-wire modual to the + side of the coil. The distributor modual also has a lead to ground (brown) and a lead(green) to the - side of the coil.
I feel I am not getting enough spin from the starter to turn the engine over...the rpms seem very low.
