Default CorrosionX or LPS 3 to treat birdcage and inside frame?

Hi - I currently have my windshield out to repair the rust damage.
Both top corners are gone but it appears the lower corners are solid.

While I have the window out, I am considering treating as much of the birdcage as I can with either CorrosionX or LPS 3.
CorrosionX has an applicator that has a 3-ft hose you can put into openings. I figure I can attack it from:
1. Between the dash pad and the lower winshield frame (although I won't get much penetration here).
2. The round holes in the lower corner of the windshield frame (typically covered by the windshield).
3. Up from the #2 mounts.
4. Between the body and the rocker panels (covers are already off).

Any thoughts on this?

Other ideas for access areas?
Anyone have any feedback on either of these products?
Just general thoughts?

Gary,

I am NOT familiar with Corrosion X. What sort of product is that?

The best approach for me would be to take and spray a product that would penetrate the rust and neutralize it. Once that is accomplished, you are ready to seal it from moisture.

A product like LPS 3 or CRDC chemicals SP-400 corrosion inhibitor. The latter is a LPS 3 like material but it sprays better and leaves a wax like coating that is a moisture barrier.

LPS 3 is good but it doesn't spray well with the tube applicators.

Just my .02.

Bob,

CorrosionX sounds very much like LPS 3 to me. I was told about it by a friend who is into planes (it is apparently big in the aviation field).
They have a version called CorrosionX HD (or something like that) that appears to also be suspended in a wax.

Any thoughts as to additional ways I could get it into the birdcage?
Any way to get to the top of the rocker panels without cutting off the fiberglass covers?

Also - how good are these products at stopping rust where it is? My rocker channels and #2 mounts already have rust in them. Will these products generally stop it's progression?

take the chrome T trim off the top of your t-top section and also remove the plastic interior around the window. you should be able to access everything. tap scale rust or wire wheel it off, if your product consist of phosphoric acid it is a rust inhibitor, if not you can use Ospho or Naval Jelly or theres a fairly new awesome rust inhibitor/primer that dries into a clear primer all in one. any of those will work well killing rust. after that clean your metal to get the residue off then prime it with a rust resistant primer "oil base". you can then paint it if you like and or also use the SP400 mentioned above but its not necessary. SP400 is excellant for long term storage for tires, it keeps them from dryrotting.That is what is on motorcycle tires that may sit on the rack at a motorcycle dealership for years before purchased.

There are holes in the upper corners on the glass side that you could put a tube in and spray the stuff in there to take care of the sides of the frame and part of the center section. Maybe drill a couple small holes in the upper rear of the WS top frame and spray it in there. Sounds like the HD stuff will do it pretty good to me
