speedo to transducer?

speedo to transducer?
My speedo was not working in my 79 so I traced the problem to the transduder. I reemoved the transducer and took off the cover where the cable comes in from the tranny then out to the speedo. The problem lies where the plastic gear on the tranny side is spinning freely on the shaft. My question is how does this piece come apart or go back together, Is it a pressure fit. Is there any way to fix this small part or do I need to buy a whole new transducer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are talking about the gear in the tail housing it is retained by a clip. Mine fell out. Removed the tail housing found the clip put it back together.BTW I found the clip in the bottom of the pan when servicing the trans filter
