I'm looking at changing my rear end (yes again) and have a chance at buying one of two complete rear ends. One is a 3.70 rear end and the other is a 4.10 rear end. What do you guys think?
This rear end will be used with my 454 big block, Borg Warner 4 speed & 275/60/15 tires.
With a BB and 4-speed I would go with the 3.70's. I've got 3:73's in mine and still rev too high on the freeway. I think 3:55's are the best compromise.
Bence,
I agree with all above posts, you will definately regret using 4:10's due to the high highway revs (about 3k@60mph). 3:73's are even a bit high, for my money the best all around gear is the 3:55's, good out of the hole and at crusing speeds as well.
That's just my .02 anyway,
JoeB
I'll disagree with everyone. I have 4.10 in mine and they are great. With the torque of a big block the 3.70 would be a better choice. As someone said do you want a racer or a street car. If you only want 1/4 mile 4.10 will get it done in a hurry. It is tough on the highway but I don't do much highway driving.
