I don't know about better, but the extended tip IS more resistant to fouling. You may be jetted a little fat too. Or you could go to R45TS plugs. 1 step hotter.
Are the plugs coming out black? Or are you getting a miss? What does the exhaust smell like?
The extended tip is NOT longer reach. Longer reach would be the distance from the seat (where it tightens on the cyl head), to the END of the threads. Extended tip is exactly that. The tip (center electrode) is sticking out into the chamber a little more. Nothing wrong with that at all.
And if they're coming out black and sooty, that's a sign of too much fuel. Why is it so rich? Carb float? Jets too big? Let us know..
If you run your car on just short trips, this will foul out any plug as the choke will be on most of the time. If perhaps this is the case, be sure to run the car for a half hour or more after start.
